Rules and my 2 cents

I would like to see the rules changed for Roller Elite (at least). We play at our own risk for one.  Two we all pay insurance to US Hockey (for what).  Three the price keeps going up and up and I understand there’s upkeep and stuff like that.  Now it is time to give what we want!!  Everywhere I have played you have been allowed a full wind up.  Pepsi Center, EPIC, Cheektowaga, Spinners and OP all allow full slap shots.  Why can’t we!!! There is no reason why we shouldn't be allowed to take full slap shots.  For the most part people wear some sort of face protection.  If they don't that is there choice and they fully understand the consequences.  The game is boring and dull and really isn’t true hockey.  I am asking for people to voice their opinions on this topic…

Re: Rules and my 2 cents

pat, the games are always running clock!  unless its a 2 goal game with a minute to go. totally agree with the full wind up.  even if the rule was your back swing can be as big as u want but your follow through has to stay under your shoulder.

Re: Rules and my 2 cents

Spinners has the line you have to be behind (at least they did the time I played there), but could the no slapshot rule have to do with the fact you play on a small rink?   I was there Saturday and I estimate it to be about 20 feet shorter than any rink I have played at in California, and I know both EPIC and Pepsi Center have full size rinks which are bigger.

Besides, I know EPIC, MilSher, and the Pepsi Center play with a puck, which is more dangerous on a shot than a ball is.

The one that makes me scratch my head is why do goalies play in regular shoes?    I haven't seen this before except for at MilSher, Spinners, and here.  Make the goalies wear skates too, I did when I played goalie in high school in California.

And get rid of the off-sides rule.

Re: Rules and my 2 cents

I agree i have been pushing for a full wind up for a long time it would make the game better. i love taking a wrist shot but once in a while a full wind up is nice and i agree we do pay for insurance whats it for. and like joey said thats a great idea with the follow through as for the goalies on sneakers i like that they have a choice for thier prefrence it's on how they feel comfortable, focker out

Re: Rules and my 2 cents

yo deff i think the rules should be changed, cuz people play at their own risk and ya we have 2 fill out insurance n **** so we should at least get some things changed.  Slap shots deff should b as high as u want and there should b a little bit of contact allowed. Not to much because there isnt that much equipment but still u should b able 2 at least push some1 insted of letting them sk8 by u, and one other rule that has nothing to do with risk of being injured is when some1 gets a penalty the play should still go on until they touch the ball because ive played in a lot of games where i will get on a 2-0 or somthing like that n then there will b a penalty on the other team and the entire play will b stopped, i relle think that rule is a joke

Re: Rules and my 2 cents

I didn't realize the sneakers is a choice, as I haven't seen it until I moved to WNY.

Do the owners/people in charge at the rink allow people to have a sounding board as to what they think needs to be changed?  Because all the players here deserve to let management know how they think it is at the rink.  It's the only way that people will remain happy, is knowing that what needs to improve (or is wanted by more players) is going to be taken care of.

Pat's suggestion is reasonable, but why is it like that?  It should be when the penalized team touches the ball, the whistle is blown, not right away.

As for the slapshots, they're a part of hockey.  I was watching parts of 2 games last Saturday and noticed a couple players with like a quarter-windup, but that's not going to work from the point all too well.  Besides, wrist shots, if that's all you see, will offer no change of pace in of themselves.  That's the beauty of the variety of shots in hockey, and it's a good thought to allow them.

Re: Rules and my 2 cents

Delayed penalties are a bit inconsistent. Generally, the ref blows the play dead as soon as the penalty occurs. However, the ref is allowed to delay a penalty if he feels that there is a scoring chance. The play is then called after the chance is over. I feel that delayed penalties are the way to go, at least in roller. In floor hockey having 11 guys on that surface could get a little crowded, especially if they are all in the same zone.

IRON MAN

Re: Rules and my 2 cents

IronMan to the rescue!!!
Although I do agree that the back swing of a slapshot should be what ever it needs to be to get off a good shot, I have not observed anyone tearing up the shooting, I mean scoring race, since the rule was changed from waist to shoulder.  The same people that were called for high sticks are still being called for high sticks.  Since AISHC raised the shot height, I have noticed that more people are taking advantage of it.  I agree with the change, however, there other rules that need to be tinkered with.  Rules such as the crease rule.  Randy will never loosen up on the contact rules, those are steadfast.  This is mainly due to some unscrupulous individuals, such as Mr. Dobies, who like to play reckless due to his youth and exuberant nature.

Re: Rules and my 2 cents

Yeah, but you can still stop someone from being a little too exuberant with their hitting with a 2 minute trip to the box.

Is there any rule against pushing/shoving as long as it doesn't get out of hand in front of the net?  That would be the main place to be concerned about no contact.

Re: Rules and my 2 cents

LOL, I couldn't go more than 2 without a penalty, and we had laxer rules about contact.  At least I never got called for hooking LOL.
